How to Draw Vegeta Dragon Ball Z Step by Step
Vegeta – the name alone carries so much weight and the
character development he goes through, is one of the top tiers in all of anime
history. No wonder why Vegeta has won millions of hearts with his character arc
in the whole Dragon Ball series. We see his growth from a fallen prince to a
villain to an anti-hero figure to a hero figure with no gaps in between, an
amazing journey really, just how a well written character should be. So what
makes Vegeta a character so special? Why are his character traits so unique to
us otakus? Let’s talk about Vegeta in this article.
VEGETA’S HISTORY AND LIFE :
Vegeta was born on Planet Vegeta as the prince of all
Saiyans. A born genius, he needed very minimal combat training, due to his
godly skills which made up for everything. He was praised as an elite since
birth. He was pinnacle of Saiyan strength outside of the exiled Broly. The
earliest canon scene is of him as a child in the Throne Room during a visit
from Lord Beerus and there Vegeta watched as the God of Destruction used his
father as a footrest. This angered Vegeta. However, he was helpless to stop
what was happening which was Vegeta’s first taste of defeat and that made a
very deep wound on his pride. Vegeta has been known as arrogant, rash and
egotistical as well as easily provoked, ever since. He became a blood thirsty
soldier in Frieza’s army after the genocide of the entire Saiyan race and that
is when he goes from villain to anti-hero. From here on out, his psychological
deterioration starts taking place. Although he is always perceived as a cold
and detached person, he has felt every bit of the trauma of his entire clan
being murdered. He tried to vulnerability of being weak for not being able to
protect his own clan by destroying other planets and murdering races which gave
him a sense of superiority, ultimately turning him into a narcissist.
VEGETA’S ENCOUNTER WITH GOKU :
At some point, Vegeta realized that he wasn’t happy with
following Frieza and murdering races. He cooks up the thought of assassinating
Frieza as the best case scenario. However, he quickly halts his plan when
Frieza displays immense power by destroying an entire planet and the rebels who
refused to accept defeat with an enormous energy ball produced from his index
finger. He feels the need to get stronger in order to defeat Frieza and that is
when he hears about the Dragon Balls on earth which can supposedly make a
person immortal. When he reaches earth to capture the Dragon Balls, he
encounters Goku. Vegeta easily reads Goku’s power level and gives him the
chance to join him. Goku refuses and thus the first iconic fight between them
commences, one where Goku crushes Vegeta with a spirit bomb and Gohan body
slams him to almost death. Vegeta survives and tries to escape but Krillin
attempts to finish him off. Goku interferes at this moment and lets Vegeta
crawl into his space pod to go back to where he came from. Vegeta wonders how a
low class Saiyan like Goku could do so well against him. Thus begins the
obsession of surpassing Goku in power. He even breaks down in tears over his
inability to surpass Goku. However, this obsession has led him to save Goku's
life on several occasions, insisting that only he can defeat Goku. Eventually
he acknowledges Goku’s hard work in order to achieve that kind of power and
creates a relationship of deep respect and adoration toward him.
HOW TALL IS VEGETA :
A well-built but slim individual, Vegeta is shorter than
average in height. Standing only at 164 centimetres or 5’4 feet, Vegeta has
always been envious of Goku’s tall body. In the series, Vegeta's physique
changes dramatically. Initially very thin and lean compared to Nappa, he later
appears much taller and more muscular.
HOW OLD IS VEGETA :
Taking into account the time he has spent inside the
Hyperbolic Time Chamber, which he has spent a total of 5 years inside, Vegeta's
official birth year is Age 732, making him 48 years old at the end of Dragon
Ball Super in Age 780. Theoretically, by the time the Universal Survival Arc is
completed, he would be 53 years old.
WHY DOES VEGETA CALL GOKU “KAKAROT” :
The name Son Goku may be familiar to most people, but it
wasn't his birth name. It was the name given by his guardian Son Gohan, after
whom he named his son. In fact, Goku's birth name is Kakarot, a name given to
him by his father Bardock and mother Gine. Vegeta knew Goku as Kakarot even
before they met for the first time. Vegeta appears to call Goku by the name of
Kakarot, to keep up with the Saiyan traditions. He thinks that 'Goku' is an inconsequential
earth name and not suitable for a Saiyan.
HERE IS A TUTORIAL OF HOW TO DRAW VEGETA :
STEP 1
As for the first step, you need to draw the basic guidelines which include a circle, a vertical straight line and three horizontal straight lines parallel to each other. These guidelines are going to work as the base of Vegeta’s face.
STEP 2
Now you have to draw Vegeta’s eyes, eyebrows and and the squint lines on the underside of the first horizontal straight line, leaving the entire upper part of the circle for his head and forehead.
STEP 3
In this step, you’re gonna have to draw the rest of Vegeta’s facial features such as his nose, mouth in a playful smirk and facial bone structure.
STEP 4
It is a relatively complicated step in which you have to draw the entire lower part of Vegeta’s face using the all the straight lines you have drawn for guides, his ears, neck and upper chest.
STEP 5
This simple step requires you to draw Vegeta’s big spikey hair that defies gravity and his unique hairline over his forehead.
STEP 6
This is another relatively difficult step in which you’re gonna have to draw Vegeta’s body. Do pay attention to the proportion of his muscles while drawing his arms and chest.
STEP 7
At this point, you can erase the basic guidelines from Vegeta’s drawing, leaving out only the outlines you have drawn.
STEP 8
In this step all you have to do is to just apply base colours to your Vegeta artwork as shown in the picture.
STEP 9
This is the step where the fun of drawing begins. Add shades to the skin, as shown in the picture, mainly on the left side of the face and the body, to give the drawing a light and shadow effect.
STEP 10
Now add darker layers to the hair to make it look more accurate and realistic.
STEP 11
For this step, basically do the same thing as the previous step by adding darker shades to his vest to make it look more realistic with some creases and folds.
STEP 12
Now for the final step, intensify the shades on his face and muscles to add more depth to your drawing.
