DEMON SLAYER HASHIRAS EXPLAINED AND RANKED ACCORDING TO STRENGTH

The second season of Demon Slayer/Kimetsu no Yaiba has officially started airing and we cannot be more excited! Studio Ufotable is back with a bang with thispopular anime after the worldwide success of the first season, the Kimetsu no Yaiba movie “MugenRessha-hen” and the 7-episode series containing the “Mugen Ressha-hen” arc. Apparently,the current season is going to cover the “Yuukaku-hen”or the Entertainment District arc where our hero Tanjiro and the gang travel to Yoshiwara red light district along with the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui to hunt down demons that have been terrorizing the town. I, personally, give it to Koyoharu Gotouge for the amazing storyline and plot that’s as strong and solid as ever and to Studio Ufotable for some sick animation.

Let’s talk about some of the strongest demon slayers, also known as the legendary“Hashiras” or The Pillars of the Demon Slayer corps under the direct authority of Kagaya Ubuyashiki. In this article, I’m going to rank them based on their powers and capabilities according to my idea. Comment down below your ideastoo, I would love to know your opinion. Keep in mind, there will be some major spoilers in the article, so you have been warned.

SHINOBU KOCHO

In ninth place, I’m going to put eighteen year-old Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Pillar.Now it is given that all these characters are strong and skilled in their own ways. Shinobu is not weak in any sense but I would rank her below the other Hashiras in terms of physical strength. Unlike most demon slayers, Shinobu does not possess the physical strength to simply cut off a demon’s head. She fightsthem using her wit, speed and poison. In her fight against Upper Moon Two,Douma, the demon comments on how fast Shinobu is. He complimented her speed and said that she even might be the fastest Hashira he’d met so far. She has killed many lesser demons with her poison but her usual poison is not very effective against Douma. She had to sacrifice herself in order to help defeat him. She consumes small amounts of demon poison over a long period of time and eventually was overflowing with it. She purposefully let herself be consumed by Douma in order to poison him. This eventually weakened him enough for Inosuke and Kanao to defeat him. So Shinobu was good at strategizing but her last strategy eventually included sacrificing her own life.

TENGEN UZUI

Eighth on the list, I’m putting the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui. Unlike Shinobu, he does have some brute physical strength to cut off a demon head, but he is not a marked slayer. As the Hashira of the Demon Slayer corps, Tengen is an incredible swordsman. As a Hashira, Tengen was able to deal with a large number of demons in battle which made it look like he was on par with the Upper Moons.His skills was put to the test when he battled both Daki and Gyotaro, which showed him to be one of the weaker slayers. Now, there is nothing wrong with needing help, but the others can take on and kill the Moons without losing as many body parts as he did. When he is first approached by a severely wounded Daki, he states “You can’t be an Upper Rank demon. You aren’t the one I was looking for. You are too weak.” This does show he is a good judge of his enemy’s strength and understanding of what he was meant to be looking for. He was shocked when Gyotaro came out of his Sister’s body and reattached her head but he quickly showed his dedication to slay the demons. It was also stated that no demon before Gyotaro survived a hit from Tengen. During his battle, he loses an arm and eye to Gyotaro along with being poisoned by the demon.Afterwards he retires from the Demon Slayer corps but continues his services.

MITSURI KANROJI

In this spot, we have the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji. Unlike the other mentioned Hashiras, Mitsuri is still an active Hashira. She awakens her Demon Slayer mark while fighting against the Upper Moon Four. She’s able to fight the powerful clone of Upper Moon Four, Hantengu while Tanjiro and Nezuko hunt down and cut the real body. Mitsuri only distracts the powerful clone long enough for the others to kill the original and she even does it without experiencing serious injuries.However when it comes to the fight against Muzan, Mitsuri is the first of the Hashiras fighting to get serious injuries. She can’t keep up with the others and has to be saved and taken to safety by Obanai Iguro. Still, Mitsuri is the strongest female Hashira in the series and it took the Demon King to come and finally defeat her.

KYOJURO RENGOKU

I’m putting our beloved, fan favourite, charismatic and enthusiastic Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku on the sixth of this list. Rengoku embodies what it should mean to be a Demon Slayer, displaying incredible strength and skill that inspires others to grow stronger, unwavering courage and conviction to protect the innocent, a friendly and encouraging personality that puts others at ease and an open-minded point of view that allowed him to easily accept Nezuko despite his initial misgivings. He displays different levels of integrity throughout his fight with Upper Moon Akaza in the Mugen Train battle. Rengoku saves every single person on the train with no casualties at all despite the interventions of the Upper Moon Three and the Lower Moon One. When he used the 5th Form:Flame Tiger, he unleashes a barrage of slashes that uses the form of a large flaming tiger and with his 9th Form: Rengoku, he unleashes a powerful dashing slash that uses the form of a large flaming dragon. Unfortunately Akaza defeated Rengoku while Rengoku had Akaza’s hand pierced into his chest dodging Akaza’s punch and then vowing to keep him there till the sun rose. Akaza was rattled at this and did anything he could to escape. It left Akaza heavily injured whilst Rengoku had to pay with his life. Given that Rengoku fought the Upper Moon without manifesting his Demon Slayer mark, If Rengoku survived this battle, he definitely would take a higher rank on this list.

GIYUU TOMIOKA

Next up, we have the Water Hashira, Giyuu Tomioka. Giyuu is our first introduction to the idea of a Hashira. When they are first trapped in Muzan’s castle, we see how skilled Giyuu is as the Water Hashira with his style. In his fight against the Lower Moon Five, Rui, Giyuu uses one of his own breathing creations - “Dead Calm”.When Rui goes to attack Giyuu, his webs are cut off, not even touching the Hashira. In his fight against Akaza, Giyuu does struggle but at the same time it feels like Akaza is giving it his all. During this fight, after Akaza’s head is cut off, Giyuu throws his sword, piercing Akaza’s head as the demon tries to reattach it. After the body starts to attack without a head, Giyuu strikes at it with Water Breathing 4^th Form : Striking Tide. He was able to stand up to Akaza before the demon decided he was done fighting and let himself die. Giyuu also kept up with the battle against Muzan and ended up one of the few Hashira to survive the battle.

MUICHIRO TOKITO

On the fourth place,we have the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito. The youngest Hashira Muichiro achieves an insane level of power at the age of only fourteen. He defeats the Upper Moon Five, Gyokko, completely on his own while Tengen struggled a lot doing the same, that too with a lot of help. One cool thing about this Mist Hashira is his omnipresent rage, a natural ability no one else has ever seen before. On the night of his twin brother’s death Muichiro awoken his rage and blindly murdered the demon until dawn with any nearby object he could find.Once joined the Demon Slayer corps, it only took him only two months to masterthe breathing techniques and become a master swordsman at the age of only fourteen, without having ever touched a sword before. Muichiro is one of the three Hashira that have access to the Transparent World. What’s the Transparent World Ability, you ask? Well it allows Demon Slayers to see the muscle movement, blood flow and joint movements of living beings. When fighting against his ancestor Kokushibou, Muichiro is the first to unlock the Crimson Red Nichirin Blade. Although he dies at the end of the battle, the use of the Crimson Red Nichirin seemed to be what ended the demon.

OBANAI IGURO

Although it is said that Obanai Iguro is the weakest Hashira after Shinobu Kocho in terms of physical strength, he makes his place this high on this list because sometimes brawn fades away when it comes to brain. Iguro has been keeping up with Muzan’s attacks along with Gyomei and Sanemi and he’s been doing this before he even manifested his Demon Slayer mark and furthermore he has turned his blade Red,like Muichiro, and using this Crimson Red Nichirin Blade he is able to cut off Muzan’s arm and land some serious attacks on him during the battle. If he was keeping up with the others before, you can bet he’s OP now with his newly manifested Demon Slayer mark which definitely gives him a significant power upgrade. Also, Iguro is another, who can use the Transparent World technique,giving him an advantage over many other Demon Slayers.

SANEMI SHINAZUGAWA

Coming up in the second place, we have the Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa. It is important to address Sanemi’s blood since it’s special. Sanemi has the “Marechi” blood,which is the rarest type of blood that drives demons crazy. This is how he was able to kill his demon mother along with capturing and killing so many demons before he even found out about the Demon Slayer corps. He has insane recovery abilities and manages to survive even after receiving severe wounds that would have killed pretty much anyone else. He survived the fight against Kokushibou,although he did have to be saved by the Stone Hashira Gyomei on occasion. At the end of the fight, Sanemi loses his consciousness but still keeps on fighting. Against Muzan, he keeps up with Iguro and Gyomei, pissing the Demon King off after he cuts Muzan in half and sets him on fire. Brutal, I know!Also, he holds his own while fighting against the Upper Moon One. What’s even more impressive, is the fact that Sanemi possibly flexed his muscles to stop his guts from spilling out.

HIMEJIMA GYOMEI

It is none other than the Stone Hashira Himejima Gyomei who tops this list. His past reveals that he was just a hopeless blind man who took care of orphans. To start off,before he was a Demon Slayer, Gyomei, the kind looking monk, once punched ademon in the head till the sun rose, to save the only child he had left. Just like Muichiro, he masters the breathing techniques and swordsmanship after only two months of training all whilst being blind. Amongst the Hashiras, they all stated that Himejima is indeed the strongest Hashira. He made his appearance in the fight against Muzan, he was the first to arrive the spot using and using his flail axe to demolish Muzan’s head several times realizing his head can’tbe used as a weak point. After being sucked through the Dimensional Infinity Fortress he arrives to the Kokushibou fight a bit later than Sanemi andMuichiro. His arrival even mesmerized the Upper Moon One and as he proclaimed that Himejima’s Body was the perfect physique for any swordsman and then after relentlessly attacking Kokushibou, the Upper Moon One compares him to that of a demon since each strike is stronger and even more powerful. Although he is blind, Himejima managed to access to the Transparent World and find the critical point on Kokushibou, awakening his Demon Slayer mark and having his Nichirin blade turn Crimson Red. Himejima showed no sign of wavering in his battle against Kokushibou and at the end when Kokushibou is cornered by the stab in the gut, Himejima landed the finishing blow on the Upper Moon One. He is definitely in his own level amongst the nine Hashira, thus making him the Strongest.
