How to draw Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer Step by Step Tutorial

When it comes to one of the most popular new age Shounen manga and anime, Demon Slayer sure does take the cake, making the protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado loved and respected by millions around the world. He’s everything a man should be – loving, kind, honest, strong, and determined. Let’s talk about our Demon Slayer sweetheart Tanjiro Kamado.

TANJIRO’S LIFE AND BACKSTORY :

Like any other Demon Slayer character, our protagonist too isn’t spared from suffering a tragic past. When the story begins, the thirteen-year-old Tanjiro is already the main support his family relies on. His father having already died, he lives up in the mountains with his mother and his younger siblings: Nezuko (sister), Takeo (brother), Hanako (sister), Shigeru (brother) and Rokuta (brother). With the latter three being small children (who Nezuko and Takeo also helped care for), Tanjiro put it upon himself to go down the mountain in the snow to sell charcoal in an effort to bring back enough food for New Year’s.

Due to the weather being difficult, he has to go alone but when he gets to the town, it becomes clear he is well-regarded there too, with many townsfolk asking for his help with minor errands as he sells the charcoal. After the long day is done, he begins his return home but is stopped on his way up the mountain by a man who warns him that demons will be out at night and he should come in and stay the night to be safe. Tanjiro finds the warning a little absurd but decides to stay the night before returning to home.

But when he arrives home the next morning, he is horrified to find his entire family has been brutally massacred and in the shock of the moment, he finds only his sister Nezuko is still showing signs of life and putting her on his back begins racing down the mountain to get her medical aid. On the way, he meets the water hashira Giyuu Tomioka who attacks Nezuko as he is supposed to slay demons but realizes Nezuko is not harmful to humans. Giyuu sends Tanjiro and Nezuko to Urokodaki to train to be a Demon Slayer and to find a way to turn Nezuko back to be a human. Tanjiro comes across Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira in his journey too.

TANJIRO’S POWERS AND ABILITIES :

From the beginning, Tanjiro was shown to be a prodigious fighter, having a strong natural aptitude for combat, especially in swordsmanship. Tanjiro was already introduced to have superhuman characteristics, like extraordinary senses, a heightened sense of smell, immense willpower and great intellect. Sakonji Urokodaki, a previous Water Hashira and Water Breathing Cultivator, taught him Water Breathing Techniques and this was Tanjiro's initial Breathing Style. He became extremely proficient in it, enabling him to take on two members of the Twelve Kizuki, namely Rui and Enmu. However, due to his body not being suited to Water Breathing's techniques, Tanjiro decided to switch to the   Hinokami Kagura as his main Breathing Style. Despite this, Tanjiro has not abandoned what he was taught, combining Water Breathing with the Hinokami Kagura, due to the strain Hinokami Kagura placed on his body, in order to have stronger strikes than when he used Water Breathing alone and move for longer periods than if he used Hinokami Kagura alone.

WHO IS TANJIRO’S FATHER?

Tanjiro’s father Tanjuro Kamado is a distant relative of Sumiyoshi Kamado who was a very close friend of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the strongest Demon Slayer and the inventor of Sun breathing. As a descendant of the Kamado family and with the ability to enter the “Transparent World,” Tanjuro’s birthmark on his forehead was secretly a Demon Slayer Mark. This proves Shinjuro’s explanation that all Sun Breathing users naturally have a mark on their forehead.

STEP – 1 : Drawing baselines

In this step of anime drawing, you’re going to have to draw one vertical line and three horizontal lines parallel to each other, on the circle that you have drawn in the previous step, which will help you place the facial features. Initially this is the first step of how to draw an animated face.

In the third step you are required to draw the lower part of the face of Tanjiro which is basically the jaws and the chin, on the underside of the circular baseline.

Here comes the most fun part, which is drawing anime hair. Start by drawing the outline of Tanjiro’s curly unruly hair, going in every direction, slightly pushed back and put double lines on the edges for bicoloured effect.

In this step you have to draw Tanjiro’s eyes that are big, beautiful and circular, along with his thick long eyebrows. Don’t forget to draw his ears and his iconic Hanafuda earrings. Add his nose too.

This step requires you to draw the lips on the underside of the circle.

Drawing anime body made easy just for you! Start by drawing the neck and then draw Tanjiro’s Demon Slayer Corps uniform. Do add Nezuko’s box strapped on his back. Going back to the face, draw the scar on the left side of his forehead, as shown in the picture.

In this step, you’re going to have to define the outlines further.

In this step you can erase all the excessive guidelines and rough lines, leaving out only the final outlines.

STEP – 10 : Colouring the drawing

In this step all you have to do is to colour and shade your final drawing as shown in the picture. Colour his hair, scar, eyes, the box and his inner clothes with shades of burgundy; the checkered patterned hakama and pay attention to the details on the earrings.
