How to Draw Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia Step by Step Tutorial

While Horikoshi Sensei’s iconic new age Shonen manga turned anime My Hero Academia is one of the most successful and popular one these days with very interesting, powerful and attractive characters, we can’t help but fawn over this mature, strong and intelligent character who is very popular with the ladies (although with his character traits, he is totally oblivious about it lol), the 16 year old “Half Hot, Half Cold” Shoto Todoroki. Let’s talk about U.A High’s gem, a pro hero in the making, Shoto Todoroki. Also if you are looking for some guidance to draw anime boys from My Hero Academia, we have a tutorial on how to draw a cute boy like Shoto Todoroki right here. So let’s get into it!

SHOTO TODOROKI’S LIFE AND BACKSTORY :

Shoto, in my opinion, is one of those characters who have suffered the most tragic past which plays a crucial part in shaping his personality traits. We know he is the youngest son of the current Number 1 hero Enji Todoroki AKA Endeavor in the My Hero Academia universe and despite being an excellent hero, as a parent, Endeavor San has totally failed his children. It is sadly shown that Shoto Todoroki is nothing but a creation, created by his father out of jealousy for All Might. He is in fact the offspring of an agreement, as revealed in the series. Heroes are often married to partners who have powerful quirks to produce children with even more powerful quirks from both parents. When Shoto's father forced his mother into marriage in an effort to create a powerful child, he ended up taking away his childhood in pursuit of making him the number one hero. In the process, the same trauma affected Shoto’s three older siblings very brutally.

Despite Shoto's quirk, which is half cold and half hot, developing at age four or five, his father didn't allow him to interact with his siblings. Since Enji deemed him to be perfect, Shoto was forced to train all day without any real interaction with others, including his siblings. When he was about six, in the course of trauma and abuse, his mother poured boiling water over his face leaving a scar over his left eye. It was a reaction to how much his left side looked like his father. So technically, Shoto was created out of Endeavor’s ambition and was not born out of love. Endeavor’s ambition resulted in a tragic childhood for his child. His tragic childhood caused him to not interact with most of the characters for a part of the series. His face is usually unreadable; his voice is also relatively monotone. Despite his upbringing there is a sweetness about him, and will drop everything to help a friend, no matter how much trouble it could get him into.

Things start to change for the better during the Sports Festival Arc when Shoto strengthened his friendship with Izuku Midoriya, the protagonist. Shoto refused to use his left side or the fire quirk inherited from his father out of spite. Izuku convinced him that it was his own power no one else’s. Since then he has decided to embrace every part of himself as a whole which turned out to put a huge positive impact on who he is as a person.

SHOTO TODOROKI’S QUIRK :

Shoto's Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk, which grants him immense dual-element power, gives him a great handle over his versatile and powerful abilities. From his right side of his body, Shoto is capable of drastically reducing temperatures, freezing any object he touches, and generating ice that he can freely manipulate into a variety of shapes, including large ice waves that cover much ground, and ice barriers. From his left side, Shoto creates scorching hot streams and can release protective waves of flame.

Shoto has proven himself to be quite resilient, being able to withstand multiple attacks from Izuku, including a direct, One For All -enhanced punch at 5% strength to the stomach, without sustaining major injuries. During his fight with Leviathan, Shoto was able to withstand his punch, which was strong enough to destroy the floor of the Humanise headquarters. One of the most impressive examples of Shoto's resilience, was when he endured the superior agnikinesis of Dabi, although, Shoto was partially shielded by his own agnimancy, and Dabi intentionally held back in his final attack that left Shoto alive.

Shoto has shown to be able to endure combat even while injured. For example, in his battle with Stain, he was able to continue fighting and supporting his allies despite suffering from multiple bleeding injuries on his arm and face, and was still able to drag the villain's unconscious body once the battle is over. When he engaged Dabi in an agnikinetic brawl, Shoto continued to fight on despite his body slowly becoming charred.

Shoto is fast, agile, and has quick reflexes. He was able to keep first place during the majority of the Obstacle Race during the Sports Festival thanks to his own athletic ability. He repeatedly created ice walls within a split second in order to prevent himself from getting thrown out of the ring through his matchups with Izuku and Katsuki. He was the only one in Class 1-A capable of at least partly reacting to and dodging Tenya's Recipro Turbo. He was also able to partially dodge a knife thrown at his face and several other attacks by Stain, a notably swift opponent.

HOW IS SHOTO TODOROKI RELATED TO DABI :

Dabi, originally known as Touya Todoroki, is Enji’s first son and Shoto’s oldest brother. Circumstances made Touya fake his own death and he joined the League of Villains, which is, of course, another consequence of Enji’s actions.

WHAT IS SHOTO TODOROKI’S HERO NAME :

Shoto chose his first name for his hero name, which is ‘Shoto’ because it holds the Kanji for fire and ice which perfectly denotes his powers. It is very appropriate for his hero name.

HERE IS A TUTORIAL ON HOW TO DRAW SHOTO TODOROKI :

STEP – 1 : Drawing baselines

The first step of drawing cute anime boys, such as Shoto Todoroki himself, requires you to simply draw a circle.

STEP – 2 : Drawing baselines II

In this step of anime drawing, you’re going to have to draw one vertical line and three horizontal lines parallel to each other, on the circle that you have drawn in the previous step, which will help you place the facial features. Initially this is the first step of how to draw an animated face.

STEP – 3 : Drawing the lower part of the face

In the third step you are required to draw the lower part of the face of Shoto which is basically the jaws and the chin, on the underside of the circular baseline.

STEP – 4 : Drawing Shoto’s eyes

When it comes to anime art, the most frequently asked question is how to draw anime eyes. While drawing anime eyes isn’t a matter of joke, Shoto Todoroki’s beautiful heterochromatic eyes are on a whole different level. Start by drawing the slanted almond shaped outline of the eyes along with the eyebrows on the inside of the first two horizontal guidelines.

STEP – 5 : Drawing Shoto’s facial features

In this step, you’re going to have to draw Shoto’s nose on the vertical line and his lips on the circle, right above the chin.

STEP – 6 : Drawing Shoto’s hair

Do you agree with me that drawing anime hair is one of the most fun part of anime art? And shoto has very unique hair which is also very beautiful. Start by drawing the outline of his slightly dishevelled, straight short hair that frames his face perfectly as bangs covering his forehead. Do put parting lines between the hair for his bicoloured hair.

STEP – 7 : Drawing Shoto’s facial features II

In this step, you have to draw the ears on each side of his head, right under where his bangs end and the burn scar covering his left eye.

STEP – 8 : Drawing Shoto’s neck

It’s a really simple step, just add these two tiny lines for his neck.

STEP – 9 : Drawing Shoto’s upper body / How to draw an anime body

This step requires you to draw Shoto’s upper body, covered by his U.A High’s uniform, including a neck tie.

STEP – 10 : Darkening the outlines

In this step, you’re going to have to define the outlines further.

STEP – 11 : Finalising Shoto fanart

In this step you can erase all the excessive guidelines and rough lines, leaving out only the final outlines.

STEP – 12 : Colouring the drawing

In this step all you have to do is to colour and shade your final drawing as shown in the picture. Colour the hair right and left as white and red respectively, the right and left eye as grey and blue and the scar has to be pinkish red.

At this point, your Shoto drawing is complete and ready for the world to see. We hope the tutorial was helpful for you. Let us know in the comments your thoughts on Shoto and this tutorial. Don’t forget to subscribe and share! See you on the next one.
